Chinook (king)
Spring Salmon (also known as Kings) are the largest and most prized game fish of the salmon species. Running from mid-April to the end of August, Trophy Chinook can live up to 7 years and can reach weights up to 100 lbs! It is not uncommon to catch fish over 50 to 60 lbs. Hook into one of these salmon and you better hold on!
Northern Coho (silvers)
The Skeena and Nass Rivers are home to the Northern Coho (also known as Silvers). They are the largest of the Coho Species, with records over 30lbs! Northern Coho run from August until mid-November and have a reputation for their amazing fighting capabilities while on the hook. Catching Coho all day long on a fly rod will wear out even the most avid anglers! |
Chum
Also known as dog salmon, Chum provide endless hours of fishing excitement for anglers of all ages. They range from 5 to 35 lbs and live between 3 to 5 years. Chum run from mid-June until the end of September in the Kitimat River.
Sockeye
One of the finest eating salmon, Sockeye (also known as Reds) will prove to test one’s skills on a fly rod. They live from 4 to 5 years and are the most streamlined of all the salmon. Sockeye range from 5 to 25 lbs and run from mid-June until the end of September. Almost toothless, flossing for these fish is a real treat! |
Pink
Huge runs of Pink Salmon return to our rivers to spawn each year. They are the smallest of the salmon species, weighing between 4 and 12 lbs and live for only 2 years. Runs start in June and end in October. Oddly enough Pink Salmon are known to be more abundant in the Northwest in even-numbered years. The whole family can enjoy catching one of these fish. |
